The Structure and Function of the Human Heart

The human heart is ideally structured to perform its function. Blood enters the right atrium and passes through the right ventricle, which pumps the blood through the lungs (where it is oxygenated). The blood returns via the left atrium and passes through the left ventricle, which pumps the blood to the aorta (from where blood is pumped throughout the entire body). The atria are the upper chambers, and the ventricles are the lower chambers.
