Patient Discharge Information

Venous Compression Syndrome Post-Procedure Instructions:

  • There are several medications that may be added based on the results of your procedure. If you received a stent, you will be placed on an anti-platelet medication such such as Plavix, Effient, or Brilinta, as well as aspirin. It is important to take this medication as prescribed to reduce the risk of re-occlusion of the area that has been fixed.
  • The sterile dressing should be removed after one day and the puncture site should be kept clean and dry. Apply a Band-Aid for three days after removing the dressing.
  • Avoid driving for two days after your procedure. You may return to work after three days, or as directed by Cardiology Associates. Do not lift (push/pull) more than 10 pounds for one week. For procedures where the catheter was placed in your groin, limit climbing stairs, crossing legs, and bending over for one day. If you must climb stairs, use your unaffected leg.

Arterial Procedures Post-Procedure Instructions:

  • There are several medications that may be added based on the results of your procedure. The medication Pletal can be used to treat intermittent problems with blood flow in the legs (claudication) by enabling you to walk longer distances with less pain. It is important to take this medication as prescribed to reduce the risk of re-occlusion of the area that has been fixed.
  • Drink plenty of fluids the day of, and after, your procedure. The radioactive pharmaceutical used during your procedure is eliminated through your kidneys. Drinking fluids helps to flush out the kidneys.
